Research in Motion, the manufacturer of Blackberry is famous for providing smartphones that have been designed specifically for business people and consumers, each one having a scaled-down version of the traditional ‘qwerty’ keyboard.
However, the company has recently unveiled its very first phone that will have a traditional mobile phone keypad instead of a qwerty keyboard.
Coming to the UK market by early summer, the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G will be of almost the same size as its predecessor but will possess an alphanumeric keypad.
The phone will come equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera and a processor that will be twice as fast as the previous model. Overall, the new Pearl can se imagined as a slimmed down version of the Bold 9700.
It is expected that with the launch of the Pearl 3G, the market for Blackberry will broaden up as it will also attract the younger lot that prefers the typical keypads for easy texting.
This is the first time RIM is developing different devices keeping in view the different markets. According to reports, the Pearl 3G will have the same 20-key qwerty keypad as the original Pearl in the US, but in Europe it will have a traditional 14-key mobile phone keypad, which is a very different and unique step taken by the firm.
Considering the fact that more than three quarters of the mobile customers in the global market prefer to buy handsets with a traditional alphanumeric keypad, it is expected that the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G will qualify for a considerable market share. The new phone will allow its users to use a full-featured, easy-to-use and fashionable 3G BlackBerry smartphone that includes a BlackBerry Messenger and many other apps, while enjoying the design and layout that is familiar and more easy to use.
